Gender disparities still persists in rural areas particularly among the disadvantaged communities like SCs, STs, OBCs, Minorities and other weaver sections. Looking at enrollment trends, there remain significant gaps in the enrollment of girls at secondary level as compared to boys. To meet this challange, a Centrally Sponsored Scheme titled “ Scheme for Strengthening of Boarding and Hostel facitilies for Girl students of Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools” has been implemented in 81 Educationally Backward Blocks(BBSs) of Assam. Govt. of Assam decided that the Gorls Hostel Scheme will be implemented through RMSA Society under Secondary Education Department. The girl students in the age group of 14 to 18 years studying in class IX to XII and belonging to SC, ST , OBC, Minority Comunities and BPL families are the target group of the scheme. Preference is given to KGBV passout girls.
The Ministry of HRD, Govt of India has approved 81 nos of 100 bedded Girls Hostels in Educationally Backward Blocks of Assam out of which construction of 72 nos of Girls Hostels are in progress at different level and total 16 numbers of Girls Hostels have already been operationalized.
Total 100 bedded capacities, Mini Library cum Reading Room, Warden’s Room cum Office Room, Kitchen cum Store Room, Dining Room, Ramp with Rail, Toilet Block, Entrance Lobby, Sufficient Circulation Area, In-Built Cup-Board, Rooms with Balcony are the features of Girls Hostel.
